January Round Up

What I read…

  • Little Fires Everywhere, by Celeste Ng
  • The Matchmaker, by Elin Hilderbrand
  • BSF Matthew Study
  • Gentle & Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners, by Dane C. Ortlund

I made a goal this year to finish two fiction books and one non fiction book each month. I am happy to report I am on track for the fiction book, but have not yet finished Gentle & Lowly. I think I take more time with my non-fiction books because I am trying to learn something, and really lean into what God is teaching me. However, with my fiction books, I zoom through. I was a little late on the Little Fires Everywhere train, but I enjoyed it a lot. Definitely a good book to consider your thoughts and opinions on social topics. The Matchmaker was just a classic Elin Hilderbrand romance, intrigue, tears, easy to read. I just really enjoy “escaping” with her lit. I’ve already finished my first February fiction book, so I’m excited to keep sharing!

What I listened to…

  • Dear Shandy, Podcast by Sharleen Joynt & her husband Andy Levine
  • All out 2000’s playlist on Spotify (prep for my girls weekend with my HS besties)

Ok ok, I’ve already confessed in my about me section that I am a closet bachelor lover. I got into it again with JoJo’s season and then have been hooked back in ever since. Sharleen is the absolute best recapper. She used to write recap blogs, but is now doing a podcast with her husband and it is GOLD. I love their take on the bachelor, and while I wouldn’t say our values line up identically, I really enjoy their humor and candor.

I went to high school pre 2010. So obviously I was thriving with the all out 00’s podcast. My 4 best gals from high school flew down to Miami to visit and we left behind our collective 12 kids ages 6 and under. It was as incredible as it sounds. I may need to recap the weekend at some point.

Recipes I tried…

We had a *cold spell* (30s-50s lol) and I was THRIVING, so obviously I had to make some soup! This recipe was so yummy! (is there anything she makes that isn’t?!) I swapped the Italian sausage for ground chicken with a bunch of Italian spices thrown in. Everything else I’ve been cooking are my usual faves, but may have to share some since this is a *new space*

What I’m watching…

Honestly nothing with any regularity. I don’t really *watch* The Bachelor, I prefer recap podcasts. I checked out the How I Met Your Father reboot/remake cause Hillary Duff is cute. It was eh… I can watch it while folding laundry or whatever. Really, we just have been watching football playoffs all January and we are ready for the Bengals to be in the Superbowl!! Hopefully I will have more to report in my February round up!

What I bought…

  • Bogg Bag. Yep. I gave in. We can’t live 25 mins from the beach and not own one!! The material of a croc, the stability, the space. You may not look the most chic on the beach or at the pool, but you will be the most prepared and have the most sensible bag. It’s literally the Honda Odyssey of beach bags. I’m glad we got it.

What about you? Any books, shows or podcast suggestions? Any recipes you’ve loved? Any purchases you’ve absolutely loved? Anything else I should include? Let me know in the comments!
